Roxanne Hawn spent nearly 10 years as a staff writer and editor. She then began her freelance career in late 1999 on the advice of several mentors, who for years encouraged her to make the leap.
Roxanne feels nothing less than liberated. Because she’s on the outside and not bogged down by other things, she can focus only on the goal, the deadline, and the creative vision for the piece – be it for a newspaper, magazine, website, or private client. Wide Interests, Big Enthusiasm
An avowed lifestyles generalist, Roxanne credits her liberal arts education from The Colorado College and broad professional experience, with giving her the ability to pick up nearly any topic quickly.
Amid a wide range of subjects, Roxanne is perhaps best known for her writing about dogs and weddings.
Pets & Animal Health/Behavior
Roxanne is a frequent and
regular contributor to several national pet and pet-related trade
magazines. As the former lead creative services writer for the American
Animal Hospital Association and publications manager for the American
Humane Association, she brings more than 15 years of experience writing
about these markets. Roxane also served in the board of directors for the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy, a coalition of animal welfare groups, and as a local shelter volunteer for several years.
Bridal Topics and Relationships
From 2001 to 2006, Roxanne served as the “Vows” columnist for The Denver Post. She literally attended some two dozen weddings each year. She wrote a few “Vows” and “Field Notes” pieces for The New York Times.
A Few Personal Notes
Roxanne lives in the Rocky Mountains, west of Denver, with her husband Tom. They are the proud companions to two great dogs, Ginko Cornelius (lab/greyhound) and Lilly Elizabeth (border collie). Roxanne reads a lot, loves to cook, manages to make a quilt on occasion, is learning to knit, and trains Lilly as an amusing avocation.
